Fabric Cropping / Shearing
When producing toweling the surface of the material is composed of a series of loops. This surface can be developed by applying a cropping or shearing process to make it more flame retardant or to create a more appealing finish. This is a very specialised process and is not widely available within the UK. Gateway are able to offer this process from our Nottingham based facility.
The benefits of Fabric Cropping / Shearing
Flame Retardant Textiles
One of the most significant factors that cause fatalities in fire can be directly attributed to the accidental ignition of upholstery and textiles. This is caused by the small fibres that are created by the manufacturing process and dramatically increase the flammability of the textile material. Cropping / shearing of the fabric surface can be used to remove these small fibres so that the material is much less likely to cause combustion.
Surface Finish Enhancement
Cropping and shearing can be used to create a velour knitted fabric. This type of material is able to stretch like knitwear but has the texture and feel of velvet. It is produced by cropping the loops in a traditional knitted fabric to improve the surface texture while retaining other desired properties from this type of material. Velour is popular as dance wear where movement is paramount and as an upholtry material it is used as a replacement for velvet.
Gateway are able to offer you a commission cropping / shearing service and would be happy to discuss your projects in confidence. Please call Howard on 0115 975 7581
